Artists Statement

Art is the voice of the soul.

I came back to art during a transitional time in my life. Although I wasn’t really conscious of it at the time, the technical aspects of producing art kept my mind busy long enough to allow my soul to emerge and direct the art. The art then told me much of who I really am beyond this personality I was born into.

It gives me great joy when I see someone appreciate my art…I know they too hear the voice.

About the Artist and her Art

Janet was born and raised in Ottawa. Except for pursuing a university degree at McMaster University in Hamilton, she has lived in Canada’s Capital.

Janet was formally trained in studio arts at McMaster University. Shortly after graduation, she was hired by the National Capital Commission to provide illustrations and graphics for publications and presentations. Over time, with training in graphics and industrial design she moved into the field of industrial design and environmental graphics at the NCC where she was a senior industrial designer and project/design manager forming and working in multi-displinary teams of landscape designers, industrial designers, engineers, interpretation specialists, writers, graphic designers, illustrators, artists, sculptors, and foundries to create outdoor interpretation, commemorations, plaques and oreintation systems that are as much works of art as they are functional information pieces.

During her last seven years working at the NCC, Janet is straddled two careers, one as a designer and project manager with the NCC, the other as a sculptor and painter. These two careers are very supportive of each other and much that was learned in one area supports and enhances the other.

Janet "retired" from the NCC in 2007, to concentrate on on her sculpture. Her unique skills in design, project management combined with her talent and interest in sculpture, and outdoor interptretation and art, have made her a sought after commodity. Janet now balances her creative energies between her sculpture and contract work.

Janet's work can be found at her Worldview Studio in Ottawa, but has also been shown in many other shows and gallaries as follows:

Art is a pure expression of self, the canvas of ones own soul. It is a true portrait of how one views ones self in relation to the world around it. Art is the "WORLDVIEW" the "ALL THAT IS" of the individual.
